Sanitation Improvements in Baesa, Quezon City under the USAID-Rotary International Water Collaboration (Project Launch)
January 8, 2010, Barangay Baesa, QC

Managing our Water Resources to Preserve Life

Every space probe that we send from Earth has one special task to achieve: the discovery of water and life in other planets. Ang tubig ay ang pinaka basic na elemento for the existence of life. All other desired scientific results from each space probe are collaterals to this basic discovery.

That is how important water is to life and to humanity. Ganyan kahalaga ang tubig sa buhay at ng buong katauhan. This is the very reason Rotary International has asked Rotarians around the world to manage our water resources and protect our environment. It is possible that life once existed in other planets but became extinct because of the degradation of the environment. That is why Rotarians the world over are encouraged to initiate or at the very least, participate in water management and environmental protection programs or projects.

Today we demonstrate our commitment to this mandate through the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding between RI District 3780, Maynilad Water Resources, Inc., Barangay Baesa, and AECOM International Development for Sanitation Improvements in Baesa, Quezon City under the USAID-Rotary International Water Collaboration.

The 3-H Grant that was awarded by The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International to RI District 3810 and RI District 3780 in collaboration with USAID includes our responsibility to improve waste water management and hygiene education along the Pasig River in Manila and Quezon City as part of the USAID-Rotary International Water Collaboration, an agreement to collaborate on water supply and sanitation projects in developing countries.

My friends, by managing our water resources we secure the future of our children and of our world. Anytime in the future space probes from other planets will reach our Earth and will find our planet teeming with life. Ang makikita nila ay ang ating mga bagong henerasyon. Chances are they will learn from our chronicles that we have played our part in the preservation of life in our communities and in our world.

Wouldn't that be wonderful?
