As a Rotarian and Civic Leader
Alex started his Rotary life upon the invitation of Rtn. Roger Recoco in 1998. He joined the Rotary Club of Diliman (RC Diliman) during the term of Past President Tony Abad.
Because of his passion to serve others and his genuine desire to share his abundant blessings and successes in life, Alex was so focused on and dedicated to the club's activities that he emerged as its most active Rotarian in the succeeding years after his induction. As a fitting recognition of his invaluable service to RC Diliman, the club accorded him -- for five times -- the Most Outstanding Rotarian of the Year Award.
Having successfully served in various committees and directorships in RC Diliman, he was elected club president for RY 2002-2003, under the governorship of Loving Governor Bobby Viray and RI President Bitchai Rattakul of Thailand. His achievements during his presidency gave him a sterling reputation at the District level and earned him an appointment as co-chair of the TRF Seminar. He then served as Assistant Governor's Representative in RY 2003-2004. In the succeeding years, he served as Assistant Governor for two consecutive terms, chair of the TRF Seminar and Recognition Night in 2005, and member of various District committees.
The most successful and notable major District event he handled was the District Conference 2006 (DISCON 2006), during which he co-chaired the memorable event with his mentor, PDG Bimbo Salazar, Jr. During the 2005 Manila Zone Institute, Alex served in the organizing committee as Assistant Treasurer. During the 94th RI Convention in Brisbane, Australia, he served as Sergeant-at-Arms.
As a true believer in and supporter of The Rotary Foundation (TRF) humanitarian projects such as the Polio immunization that benefited more than 2 billion children , 3H and Matching Grants projects which improved the lives of hundreds of thousands of marginalized people around the world and the Rotary Peace Scholarship Program, Alex strived to become a Major Donor to The Rotary Foundation.
In recognition of his selfless and sincere service to his home club and of his effective leadership skills at the District level, RC Diliman unanimously endorsed PP Alex for the position of District Governor Nominee (DGN) for RY 2008-09. In February 2006, he was chosen by the 21 members of the District Nominating Committee chaired by PDG George Howard, and eventually proclaimed as the DGN for RY 2008-09 by then DG Benjie Bacorro.
